Be prepared to be flexible

Be prepared for the specifics of your treatment plan to change after your face to face consultation with your surgeon. Although, our clients more than often are able to stick to their initial treatment plan, which was provided after a free online consultation. Our surgeons are very experienced in offering online consultations and give extremely accurate feedback. This said, the surgeon’s recommendation may not fit in with your preferences therefore a new treatment plan and quote could be drawn up on the day of your surgery. This is common for surgeries such as breast augmentation and liposuction. Often the size, shape and placement of your breast implants will be different to what you original thought you would want or need. Liposuction is sometimes not possible in the areas where you wish to have it as the surgeons may think that there is not enough fat to be removed. Our surgeons will always strive to achieve the client’s desired outcome. However, they will only perform surgeries that are suitable or safe for the client.

Follow the pre surgery advice and guidelines

You will be asked not to eat or drink for 8 hours prior to your surgery time. You should also cease smoking or consuming alcohol, as well as taking dietary supplements, Aspirin, Ibuprofen and vitamins at two weeks prior to your surgery. If you are taking any other medications you should notify us before travelling to Phuket. This applies to all surgeries for example surgeries such as breast augmentation, tummy tuck surgery and liposuction.

Taking time off work

Your surgeon will recommend a length of stay in Phuket that is needed for you to have the surgery and recover before flying back home. You will need to request this time off from work and account for the days spent travelling to and from Phuket. You may also want to consider taking a few extra days off after returning home to continue to recover fully before returning to work. If your work involves strenuous activity, speak to your surgeon and seek advice on a recommended date to return to work.

Travelling solo?

Travelling to a foreign country alone to have surgery can seem daunting. This is why at Lotus Medical we provide you with your own English speaking medical host, who is on hand throughout your whole trip. Your medical host will meet you at the hospital for each of your appointments and check up on you the days following your surgery. You will be given a mobile phone to contact us with whilst you are staying in Phuket. We will fully support you throughout your surgical holiday so you will not feel alone. If you have any concerns after you leave the hospital and return to your hotel, we are just at the end of the phone. We will also arrange all of your transfers to and from the airport, hospital and hotel. Many clients will travel with a partner or friend but still benefit hugely from being fully supported by Lotus Medical.

Rest up

You will find you get tired easily in the days following your surgery so don’t expect to be out exploring, sightseeing and shopping. Rest is very important in recovery. Depending on which time of the year you visit Phuket the weather can be very hot and humid. Keeping your incision clean and dry is imperative to avoiding infection or a delay in the healing process. This is most important for surgeries such as liposuction of tummy tuck surgery where you may be required to wear full support garments.  It is advised to not be out in the sun for too long or to go swimming. If you would like time to explore Phuket, swim and sunbathe, do this in the days prior to your surgery.

Luggage

If you are travelling solo a small carry-on suitcase with wheels is a good idea as you will not be able to lift any heavy bags after having surgeries such as liposuction, tummy tuck and breast augmentation. Ask for help when stowing your bags on the plane.

Travel and medical insurance

When travelling abroad most people buy a travel insurance policy which insures them against things like theft, accidents and flight delays. If deciding to have medical or dental procedures overseas it can be a good idea to combine travel insurance with a type of medical insurance that insures you if having elective medical procedures overseas. Lotus Medical has looked at many of these insurance packages and can advise you on a very comprehensive package that can be tailored to your specific needs.

A Facelift can be a lower facelift, a neck lift, a brow lift, eye lid surgery or any combination of.

Most often a lower face and neck lifts are performed together in combination. Very rarely will our surgeons advise a neck of facelift alone.

These procedures are categorized the following way;

  • Facelift – a lower face and neck lift (with or without the eyelid surgery)
  • Full Facelift- a lower face, neck and brow lift (with or without eyelid surgery)

The recommended length of stay in Phuket for these procedures is 16 days. Clients are provided with a full treatment plan and accurate quote after the surgeon has reviewed images of their face and has understood their main concerns.

 Incisions

When having a facelift incisions are made around the ears to tighten the skin of the lower face. The incisions will be behind and in front of the ears and are barely visible after time.

When having a brow lift there are two types of incisions; endoscopic which is less invasive or a full incision which is more invasive. Upper eye lid surgery can also sometimes be referred to as a brow lift.

When having eyelid surgery incisions are made in the folds of the eyes and the excess skin is removed to give a more taught appearance. This procedure can be done under local or general anesthetic. The recommended length of stay in Phuket for this procedure is 9 days.

Recovery

Recovery from facelift surgery can be expected to be uncomfortable as there is quite a bit of bruising and/or swelling after receiving these procedures. However, pain relief medication is much more affective in Thailand than it is compared to that used in countries such as England, Australia and New Zealand.  A full head garment is to be worn after having facelift surgery to prevent and help with residual swelling. Each client will be advised by their surgeon as to how long they should wear this garment for, depending on which combination of procedures they have had.

Face Lift Surgery in Thailand 3

We are finding that more and more people are deciding to come to have their Face Lift Surgery in Thailand. There are many benefits to having Face Lift in Thailand; reduced costs versus being at home, the exceptional experience that the Thailand surgeons have with Face Lift Surgery and not to be underestimated the ability to recover away from the stresses at home and prying eyes.

When having Face Lift in Thailand the surgeons can advise a variety of different options for you. Sometimes our Thailand surgeons advise just a Lower Face or Neck Lift but quite often Eyelid Surgery and Brow Lift can be advised as part of the overall procedure to give the best overall results. We can arrange what is called an online consultation for you so that our surgeons can assess your case and give you feedback on exactly which procedures are best for you.

Face Lift Surgery in Thailand 1

The costs for Face Lift in Thailand are very competitive versus other parts of the world; a Lower Face and Neck Lift in Thailand costs from around $8,000 and we have heard of clients being quoted in excess of $20,000 in Australia and America for these procedures.

After Face Lift Surgery the face can be quite swollen and even bruised. It usually just takes a few days for most of the bruising to disappear but it can take several weeks for the swelling to go down. Most of our surgeons ask that you will stay for fourteen days after your surgery for proper follow up and so that you can have all of your stitches removed before going home. One of the benefits if having your cosmetic surgery in Phuket is that during this recovery period you can afford the luxury of your hotel room where you can order room service, have someone else do your laundry and cleaning or even sit and relax by the pool. It makes for a much more pleasant recovery than being at home. Having cosmetic surgery in Phuket also means that you won’t be seen by people that you know during your recovery period which is often something that people are very grateful for.

What most Western people are not aware of is that there are two distinct types of Rhinoplasty surgery which are very different. One type is used more often in Western clients and this is often referred to as Open Rhinoplasty. The other type, known more often as Asian Rhinoplasty, is used primarily in Asian people. So what is the difference between these two different types of Rhinoplasty?

Western people generally have larger noses than their Asian counterparts. When Western people want to change their nose it is usually to change the shape or to refine the nose or to make the nose smaller. Our surgeons in Thailand generally use what is called open Rhinoplasty. During this technique the bones and cartilage within the nose are re-shapen to give the nose a more refined appearance.

Asian people quite often have smaller noses and quite often the bridge of the nose is very low. The type of Rhinoplasty therefore performed in Asian people involves placing a stent in the nose to raise the bridge of the nose. This stent is made of silicone.

Our surgeons in Thailand operate most often on Western clients, so unlike other surgeons in Thailand they have a vast amount of experience at the Western type of Rhinoplasty. One of the things that you should consider when wanting to have Rhinoplasty in Thailand is how much experience the Thailand surgeon has with performing the Western type of Rhinoplasty.

Open Rhinoplasty is a much more complicated surgery than the Asian style of Rhinoplasty. Open Rhinoplasty usually lasts between 2 to 3 hours and is always performed under a general anesthetic. During open Rhinoplasty the bone and the cartilage within the nose have to be very carefully manipulated by the surgeon and this type of surgery should only ever be done by a surgeon that specialises in Rhinoplasty. With Asian Rhinoplasty, this takes about an hour and it is done with a local anesthetic and is a very simple procedure. We recommend therefore that if you are deciding to have Rhinoplasty in Thailand that you make sure that your surgeon is someone who is well trained in the Western type of open Rhinoplasty that you need.
