PIACHello everyone, Happy Thursday and again Happy New Year! I’m going to start the year off with another written Testimonial we found from another very satisfied client Christine from Australia. She writes a very detailed description of her time here, her surgery and her experience with us here at Lotus. If you haven’t made up your mind yet on taking that step to come over to Thailand and get cosmetic surgery done. Maybe this will help you more towards your decision. Thank you Christine for your kind words and detailed testimonial, we hope you are well.. Happy 2014!

“I have great pleasure in writing a glowing testimonial as to the professional excellence of Lotus Medical International based on my experience as a client with them a few months ago. I contacted Lotus International, along with many other medi-tourism companies I found through google search. After lodging an inquiry, I received a personal phone call from the managing director herself the same afternoon. She was warm and professional and after a good conversation along with all necessary information I needed, I felt confident to take the next step with Lotus.

I sent through photos of myself, so I could receive quotes on getting a face-lift and Dental work, and knowledge of the different Dr’s available. Before making the final decision, and deposit, I had sent many emails back and forth with Lotus, with questions and queries. In which they were responded too quickly and efficiently.

Everything from Hotels, both surgeries, Hospitals, drivers etc were handled with sensitivity and professionalism. A driver was waiting for me at the airport when I arrived at midnight, and again in the morning when I was being taken to my appointment at the hospital. I was met again and taken into my consultation with support, and was looked after from my first day to the very end. I even received a Box of chocolates and a Birthday Card from Lotus as it was my Birthday the time I chose to travel to Phuket.

I felt well looked after and went through no complications during both surgeries. In the cosmetic surgery department and the dental department. The time that I spent things were highly professional and I felt I was in the best possible care.

I am highly amazed at the comments I have received from friends and others on how natural my face-lift looks and how great I look.

I continue to keep in touch with Lotus Medical and though they work with many other clients world wide they always remember me well and are happy to assist..

I would recommend Lotus for their professional attention and extensive experience to anyone willing to take the step to getting cosmetic surgery or dental work overseas..

Sincerely, Christine.

Confidence; one word which explains that I am not gifted enough. You can’t blame me, since during my childhood’s early years; I didn’t receive a solid foundation for good feelings about myself.  Yes, I have that weird looking Asian nose, that buying a sunglasses is like looking up for a needle in a haystack.  I know, you’re trying to visualize it, watching a 3D movie in a theatre is not that appealing because I have to constantly hold the 3D glasses because my nose doesn’t have what you call, “The Bridge.” Maybe this is one of the reasons why fate has brought me here.  Cosmetic surgery in Phuket would, hopefully someday, give me “The Bridge” I have been dreaming of. Oh wait… is it, “The Bridge” or the confidence?

Let us go back to confidence; I was assigned the role of Medical Host for Lotus Medical International. When they informed me about my job description, I thought to myself, “Wait, can I do this?” I will be working in Cosmetic Surgery in Phuket, but my confidence is missing; how ironic. However at the end of the day, I told  myself that what matters most is how knowledgeable I am in my field, how concerned and responsible I am with all the clients I am supporting, and that would prevent me from having this spotlight effect: paranoia that people will just stare at my nose.  So, to compensate for what is missing from me (the confidence),  I have read a lot about cosmetic surgeries and learned things as fast as I could, attended to the client’s needs, which has made me somehow forget about my insecurity.  Lucky for me, my nursing background was a big help.

I have seen women walking into the surgery, some were shy, some excited, and others were anxious.  I was more focused on observing the shy women, because I know that excitement and anxiety are normal during the pre-operative surgery phase.  I most closely relate to the shy people, but because of my job, being shy is not an option. “The show must go on” as the famous cliché goes.

I know how it feels like to not be confident about yourself.  It makes you feel shy, having the thoughts that there’s something wrong about you and sometimes you can’t stop having the insecurity; almost like jealousy.  I felt it and still, I have it.  I remember I was invited for a photo shoot, and it was hard for me to project in front of the camera. The whole time I was thinking the photographer is bothered looking at my nose.  The pictures were great, but I promised myself that I wouldn’t do it ever again. My confidence is distorted, but, could it be cured?

One day we had a client for breast augmentation who was very shy and timid. Her mother kept telling me how her daughter dreamt of having bigger breasts.  I felt how supportive the mother was and I saw how lack of confidence could make a person so shy; extremely shy.  I empathized with her and it moved me.  In my mind, I wanted to see how the surgery will change her life’s perspective. After 7 days, during her stitches removal, I arrived first in the hospital and was excitedly waiting for her.  I saw a woman walking like a Victoria’s Secret model, so confident: smiley face, chin up, amazing posture and, god, I will never forget that glow on her face.  If I hadn’t see her mum, I might have been doubtful she was the same client.

In 7 days I saw how her confidence has been boosted so fast like one stroke from the fairy god mother’s wand. She kept telling how happy she was.  I was inspired; I wanted to have that confidence.  I wanted to know how it feels like to walk in a crowd without the fear of being the laughing stock.  Having the confidence will make someone feel and look beautiful.  That day, I made up my mind that no matter how long it takes, if time permits me, I will have my bridge, I will have my rhinoplasty!  Since cosmetic surgery in Phuket is undoubtedly the best option, with the help of Lotus Medical International, I know, without a doubt, that I will be in the best hands and get the confidence everyone deserves to feel in themselves.

Clothes – Cosmetic surgery holiday, what to pack

After having surgery you may have limited movement and find it difficult or not be able to raise your arms above your head. Think about this when choosing which clothes to pack for your cosmetic surgery holiday. Items that can be buttoned up instead of going over your head would be best. Loose fitting clothes may be more comfortable too. Check the season that you will be travelling to Thailand for your cosmetic surgery holiday. High season is from November – April, this is when many holiday makers choose to travel to Thailand as the weather is much better. If you are travelling in these months then pack cool clothes. If you are travelling outside of these months then you may be within rainy season so pack some water proofs, the rain can be very bad at times in these months.

Compression garments – Cosmetic surgery holiday, what to pack

The hospital may already provide you with a post-surgery compression garment. Check with your coordinator whether you will be given one or not. We often recommend our clients to purchase a compression garment in preparation of their cosmetic surgery holiday. The ones the hospital provides are not often the best quality or fit. We work with an Australian based company who can advise you on which garment to buy and send it out to your home address prior to your trip.

Over-night hospital bag – Cosmetic surgery holiday, what to pack

If you are having your surgery under general anesthetic then you will be required to stay in the hospital for at least 1 night. Some procedures require a longer hospital stay. Your surgeon will have already told you how many nights you will be required to stay in your online consultation feedback. Pack some comfortable night clothes and an outfit to put on when you leave the hospital, consider the things above; lose fitting clothes that are easy to put on. You may want to pack a thin jumper in case the air conditioning is chilly in the hospital or you feel the cold easily.  Pack your regular over-night things and it might be a good idea to bring a book or organize some films to watch if you are expecting to be in the hospital for some time. The hospital has wifi so you can access skype and facebook etc to contact people back home.

Medication – Cosmetic surgery holiday, what to pack

If you are currently taking any medication for any pre-existing conditions then you must check with your coordinator and surgeon if you need to stop taking this medication before you surgery. Remember to pack any medication that you have been prescribed if you need to continue taking this while you’re away. You won’t need to bring any pain relief medication or any medication associated with your surgery. Everything will be prescribed and monitored by your surgeon in Thailand. They will even prescribe sleeping pills to help you sleep after your procedure.

Here are some important points to think about when deciding if Breast Augmentation surgery is for you.

It is likely you will need a second breast augmentation surgery

There are many reasons why women might require a second breast augmentation surgery in Thailand, such as pregnancy or weight-loss. The time in which your breast implants will last will vary from women to women. The shape of the breast implant could distort over many years. You may even find that later down the line you would rather have larger or smaller breast and elect for a breast augmentation revision surgery.

Time off work/exercise

Usually you will only need one full week off work when having breast augmentation. However if you’re having breast augmentation in Thailand you will need to factor in days spent travelling. The recommended length of stay in Thailand after having breast augmentation is 5 -7 days. This gives you enough time to recover and schedule your follow up appointments. Once you return home you should be able to begin work straight away. If your work involves any physical activity then you would need to take longer off work. Put your exercise regime on hold; it is advised not to do any strenuous exercise for up to 6 weeks after breast augmentation surgery

Realistic expectations

It’s important to do your research and be able to explain to your surgeon exactly what you would like the outcome of your breast augmentation to be.

You may already know which sized implant, placement and incision you want. Be prepared for this all to change after your initial consultation with your surgeon in Thailand. The same sized implant will look completely different on each body type and frame.

Don’t expect to go big, fast. Your skin needs time to stretch and adjust. Your surgeon will only advise an implant size that your body can handle. If you feel at a later date you still want to go bigger, this is possible after your body has adapted to your current implants.

Under or over the muscle

Many women choose to have the implant placed under the muscle to give a more natural result. Under the muscle placement can mean you are slightly sorer for longer after the surgery.

Breast Augmentation Blues

The days/week following you surgery you may not be feeling yourself. Anaesthetic and other medications can alter your mood. You will feel very tired and possibly more emotional. This is completely normal so try to remember this if you’re not feeling 100% in the days after your Breast Augmentation surgery.

You may also gain a few Kg’s in weight immediately after your surgery. Not only from the weight of your implants but also from swelling, fluid and bloating. This is normal so don’t stress if you have gained weight over-night. The swelling and fluid levels will reduce drastically in the weeks after your surgery.

Bruising can occur in strange places on your body where you might not expect it too. This is normal and nothing to worry about

Know your breasts before having breast augmentation

Make sure you’re aware of the current variations in your breast such as, nipple and cup-size. These differences could become more noticeable after breast augmentation. No two breasts are exactly alike.

Breast Augmentation and Breast feeding

If the incision is made in the breast fold or under your arm your ability to breast feed should not be affected. If however, an incision is made around your nipple your ability to be able to breast feed would likely be affected.

Breast Cancer screening after having breast augmentation

Routinely checking your breasts is very important. It’s a good idea to have a breast exam with your doctor before surgery and if you are due a mammogram, request this before surgery. Discuss with your surgeon possible effects of future mammograms regarding the implant placement

Change in posture

A natural and an augmented breast weigh near enough the same amount. If however, you choose a very large implant that is perhaps not in proportion with your frame you could experience changes to your posture. Your surgeon will advise you on which sized implants are suitable for your frame so not to alter your posture.

Here are some useful questions to answer to help you decide if breast augmentation is for you

  • Why do I want breast augmentation surgery?
  • How unhappy am I with my breasts at the moment?
  • Am I able to take the time off work for the surgery?
  • Am I fully informed of the risks and possible implications of breast augmentation surgery?

Transfers

At Lotus Medical we organize all of your transfers to and from the airport, hotel and hospital, have you sent us your flight and accommodation details yet? We also request a copy of your Passport to pre-register you at the airport. Make sure you have sent this to us so we can organize all of your transfers.

If you have booked your cosmetic surgery holiday in Thailand independently then you will most likely be able to use the airport transfers when you arrive. Often hotels can organize this for you, or the hospital in which you have booked your surgery with may include transfers.

Visas

When you arrive in Thailand you can get a 30 day tourist visa upon arrival. If you’re planning on staying longer then you can apply for a 60 day tourist visa before you arrive in Thailand. Visit the following webs page for more info http://www.thaiembassy.com/thailand/thailand-visa-types.php or email us and we can help advise you on what is best for you.

Medication

Are you on any types of medication for any pre-existing conditions? You need to notify your surgeon of these, simply enter this information on the online registration form you initially completed. Your surgeon will tell you if you can continue to take your medication or if you need to stop the medication at some point prior to your cosmetic surgery procedure. This will also depend on if you are having general or local anesthetic. You must also stop taking Aspirin or any vitamins 2 weeks prior to having cosmetic surgery

Fasting

You will be sent all the details you need for your cosmetic surgery trip as soon as your date is confirmed in this document you will see that you need to stop eating or drinking 8 hours prior to your appointment.

Paying for surgery

If you have booked Lotus Medical’s added support services then this fee is taken within one week of securing your surgery date. You can just pay the hospital directly for you surgery using any major credit or debit card. The hospital will also accept cash in most currencies and if you would like to pay before you arrive in Thailand then bank transfers are to be made at least two weeks before your surgery date. You should know that the final costs and surgical plan is not drawn up until you have seen the surgeon face-to-face, this is why it is a good idea to just pay the hospital on the day of your cosmetic surgery procedure.

Post-surgery compression garments

After most cosmetic procedures you will be required to wear a compression garment or support bra if having breast surgery. The hospital can provide these but we often recommend buying one prior to arriving in Thailand. We can advise you on where is best to buy these.

Your consultation

When you arrive at the hospital you will have the standard pre-surgery medical tests, these include a blood pressure measurement, a blood test, an ECG and a chest X-Ray. Additional tests may be required if you have any existing health concerns or previous conditions. Not all of these additional tests will be included in the surgery package.

Once these tests are complete you will have your face to face consultation with your surgeon. This is your chance to ask your surgeon as many questions as you need so that you fully understand the final surgical plan and for you to communicate your expected outcome. It is a good idea to do some research into the procedure so that you are more knowledgeable and realistic about the types of results you can expect from your cosmetic surgery procedure. For some surgeries even showing the surgeon some images of results that you would like to achieve. Remember though that every body is different and what might suit one person’s frame may not suit yours. You should leave your consultation feeling happy, relaxed and well informed.  Preparing your questions before hand may help to ensure you cover everything you want to know about your cosmetic surgery procedure.

Lotus Medical organizes for you to have a free online consultation before you make any decisions about having Breast Augmentation or any cosmetic procedure in Phuket.  We provide you with free advice and feedback from our top surgeons. Have a surgeon in mind? No problem, we can put you in touch with him or we can recommend the surgeon we feel will best suit your needs. Once you have received your surgeon’s feedback then we secure your surgery date.

Once your date for your Breast Augmentation surgery has been secured you can go ahead and book your flights and accommodation, we tell you how long you will be required to stay in Phuket for, this will depend on your surgeon and procedure type. We can refer you to our travel specialist if you would like help with booking your flights and accommodation. All you need to do is forward us your flight and hotel details and we will organize all of your transfers.

Usually our clients will arrive the day before their consultation; we will collect you from the airport and drop you to your hotel. Our drivers will then collect you the next morning and take you to the hospital where you will be greeted by your English medical host*.  Once you have been registered at the hospital the nursing staff will take you through the standard pre-surgery health checks; this includes a blood pressure reading, blood tests, an ECG and a chest x-ray. You will then have your consultation with your surgeon. You can ask as many questions as you need, decide on a final surgical plan and gather all the information. Once you are happy with the surgical plan you will be asked to pay for the surgery. Most clients pay by credit or debit card.

Now you are all ready to go, you will be shown upstairs to your room, your medical host will leave you in the capable hands of the nursing staff as they prep you for surgery. After surgery you will be taken to the recovery room for a while before returning to your room. The nurses will check on you throughout the night. This process is for general anesthetic, if your procedure is under local then you do not need a room or an over-night stay. Breast Augmentation is performed under general anesthetic.

The next day your surgeon and your medical host will come to see you. Depending on which procedure you had you may be able to check out of the hospital the next day. For Breast Augmentation surgery you are only required to stay in the hopsital for one night. Once your surgeon has said that you are ok to return to your hotel, the nursing staff will organize your prescribed medication to take home with you and our drivers will take you back to your hotel. Your next follow up appointment will be organized and you will be told what time our drivers will collect you for your follow up appointment.

You will be given a mobile phone to take with you so that you can call your medical host at any time if you have any questions or concerns. Your medical host will meet you at the hospital for your follow up appointments and make sure your airport transfer for when you leave Phuket has been organized for you.

After your last follow up appointment you will return the mobile phone, collect any more prescribed medications you might need, return to your hotel and get ready to return home. Once you are home if you ever have any questions or concerns about your cosmetic surgery in Phuket you may email your medical host or other staff members at Lotus. We can get in touch with your surgeon; forward him images and provide you with any post-surgery advice or feedback that you might need. It is extremely rare for any of our clients to have any problems after returning home and you won’t need to see any surgeons or doctors at home regarding your surgery. We often have a few common questions about recovery which are normal so please don’t hesitate to get in touch with any questions that you might have.

*Medical hosts, transfers and mobile phone are part of our added support services, these services are optional.

Opting to have cosmetic surgery is always a big decision. As you have chosen to book your surgery through Lotus Medical International you can be rest assured that your surgery will be performed by top class surgeons in a superb hospital. You can also be confident that you will receive the highest level of care.

There are some things that you can do to enhance your experience. We have put together a small list of do’s and don’ts to facilitate you during your surgery and recovery.

Do’s – recommended by Lotus and our Top Class Surgeons:

  • Drink plenty of water to keep yourself well hydrated in the days before and after your surgery.
  • Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables in the days before and the weeks after your surgery. If at all possible eat raw foods; the nutrients that these provide can help the body to heal quicker.
  • Relax as much as possible for the days before your surgery and get plenty of sleep. We know that it is only natural to get a bit nervous but do your best to relax, you are in good hands.
  • Why not try a Thai massage the day before to help to rid your body of toxins and to help you get in to a really relaxed state before your surgery.
  • Make sure that you have a lot of loose fitting clothes with you. Your movement may be slightly restricted after surgery, depending on the type of surgery that you have, it is best to have clothes that are easy to get on and off.
  • If you are in any pain or feel sick at any time after your surgery ask for medication. Although rare this can sometimes be a side effect of the pain relief medication. If you are no longer in the hospital and you feel like you need more medication, call your Lotus Medical Representative and they will organise it for you.
  • Follow the advice that our top class surgeons have given you before surgery
  • Give yourself ample time to rest and recover after your surgery. Try to do as little as possible for as long as possible. You will be able to resume most activities within a few days but please give yourself time to rest every day.
  • Inform your flight company that you have had surgery. Flight companies like to know this information and quite often they will try to accommodate you by giving you more room on the plane and by making sure you are well looked after during your flight.
  • Ask our top class surgeons if they recommend that you take aspirin or wear flight stockings during your flight home.
  • Call your Lotus Medical Assistant if you need anything.
  • Enjoy the results and the new you!

Don’ts- recommended by Lotus and our Top Class Surgeons:

  • Smoke or drink alcohol for the days before and after your surgery if at all possible. Capsular contraction after Breast Augmentation Surgery is twice as common in women who smoke so if you can, try to stop in the weeks immediately before and after your surgery.
  • Many people choose to stay in a spa to help them on their road to recovery after their surgery and this is a great idea. Just be aware that any type of massage is contraindicated for a couple of weeks after surgery as it can increase the chances of blood clot formation.
  • Don’t try to do too much in the days after your surgery. It takes time for the body to heal after surgery, please listen to what your body is telling you and take time to relax; it will pay dividends in the long run.
  • Don’t fly too soon after your surgery. The major airlines recommend that you do not fly for 10 days after major surgery. We endorse this however you can fly home as soon as your stitches have been removed.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask us or our top class surgeons questions no matter how small. We have an experienced team on hand to support you before, during and after your surgery. If you have any questions, even if they may seem silly, ask either one of your medical team or your Lotus Medical assistant.

Looking a little tired lately? Do you wish that you could do a little “nip and tuck” around the eyes to give yourself a more youthful appearance but cannot even bear the thought of the huge costs involved? Well, dream no more, with Lotus Medical International, we can assist you with booking a blepharoplasty in Thailand as well as help you organize a well deserved holiday at a fraction of the cost of what you could expect to pay for a blepharoplasty alone back home.

What exactly is a blepharoplasty you might be thinking?

Blepharoplasty is cosmetic eyelid surgery. Thousands of people have enhanced their appearance with this procedure. Blepharoplasty can correct sagging eyelids, remove fatty bulges above and below the eyes, and eliminate hanging skin from the upper or lower eyelids. Cosmetic eyelid surgery is usually an outpatient procedure performed under local anaesthesia with no hospital stay required. You can choose between an upper blepharoplasty or lower blepharoplasty, or even combine the two. The surgeon will be able to advise you on what procedure would give you the best results.

An upper blepharoplasty removes excess skin and fat in the upper eyelids. The procedure performed by making an incision in the natural contours of the upper eyelids. Because the incisions are made in the eye’s natural “lines”, they are barely visible and will fade gradually over time. When your eyes are open, the incisions are completely hidden.

A lower blepharoplasty removes excess bulging and puffiness in the lower eyelids. The procedure is performed by making an incision on the inside of the lower eyelid. The excess fat is removed and the incisions will heal without sutures. Because the incision is made on the inside of the eye, they are not visible.
